Answer by willow
its not likely. Most diseases only thrive in a wet environment so only be concerned if the toilet seat is actually wet, other wise you will be fine.

Scientists develop antibiotics to fight bacterial diseases. Which statement correctly summarizes how antibiotics work?

A. They cause the bacterial cell to shrink through osmosis.
B. They interrupt processes vital to the bacteria.
C. They all mutate the DNA of bacteria.
D. They all prevent bacteria from absorbing food.

Best answer:

Answer by michaell
An antibiotic is a selective poison. It has been chosen so that it will kill the desired bacteria, but not the cells in your body. Each different type of antibiotic affects different bacteria in different ways. For example, an antibiotic might inhibit a bacterium’s ability to turn glucose into energy, or its ability to construct its cell wall. When this happens, the bacterium dies instead of reproducing. At the same time, the antibiotic acts only on the bacterium’s cell-wall-building mechanism, not on a normal cell’s.

Question by Kathy L: What are systemic diseases that cause alveolar bone loss?
I have been slowly losing bone in my jaw over many years. I do not have gum disease. My dentists are perplexed. Despite getting my teeth cleaned 4X a year, they have not been able to control it. I do have a significant open bite, but x-rays do not show evidence of a traumatic occlusion. I have recently seen an endocrinologist to explore systemic causes of bone loss. I have so far ruled out sarcoidosis and osteoporosis. Are there any other diseases I should be screened for? I did find out that I was vitamin D deficient so am taking vitamin d supplements. There are no signs of inflammation on my gums. They are pink and firm.
No, I am not on fosamax. I had a dexascan and my numbers are fine. What type of autoimmune disease causes you to be allergic to your own teeth?

Best answer:

Answer by WiserAngel
Well, I certainly can’t speak to what is going on with you, but mine ended up being a rare auto immune disorder where I can actually developed an allergic reaction to my own teeth. I kid you not. Mainstream doctors, dentists, endocronologists, periodontists couldn’t explain it – until I finally found an oral surgeon/TMJ doctor who had seen it before.

I was so incredibly unhappy in a marriage I was once in and had many unexplained illnesses due to the strain. A few natural doctors and a lot of mediation and work on my stress level made it stablize.

You aren’t on Fosomax are you? They have recently discovered that Fosomax can cause this type of bone loss in your mouth.

Good luck.

Question by Bill 8634: What kind of diseases are brought to Europe from Australian continent when European people found it?
I heard that some diseases are brought to Australian continent from Europe but I’ve never heard of diseases from Australian continent.

Best answer:

Answer by malinalli.medicine
There are some virus and bacteria that is still being identified, it would have to be something environmental. Nomadic- Isolated populations where pretty disease free.

It really is NOT about racial genetic character differences, it is about “city people”

When people live cramped ….and with domesticated animals they are more likely to have more diseases. (H1N1) for example.

The Black plague was from fleas on mice.

If the Native American tribe now referred to as “Navajos” (Dine) would have not been nomadic, they would have spread a similar disease to the Europeans. There was an incident in the early 1990′s……many Navajo died, from a similar disease…..and actually a Eurpean man visiting got the disease…

you can see that when there are natural disasters and wars…people in camps die of choleara…and the like

Question by Blink3: What is the difference between viral and bacterial diseases?
Hey I have 2 questions:
1.is a virus a bacteria(or the other way around?)?Where do bacterias fit if they’re not viruses and the other way around?
2.I’d also like to know the difference between viral and bacterial DISEASES,not between viruses and bacterias.I know you can cure bacterial diseases with antibiotics and you can’t viral, but I wanna know the difference between the two.

Hopefully you’ll be able to help, thank you very much!

Best answer:

Answer by Emily the Scientist
Hi there. No, a virus is not a bacteria. Viruses are their own identity. They are infectious agents and are incapable of reproducing except by ‘hijacking’ a cell (such as a human cell) and utilising what they need from that cell to reproduce. Nasty, hey? You’re right: because viruses aren’t bacteria, they can’t be treated with antibiotics. The symptoms of a viral infection depend on the particular virus. The rhinovirus – common cause of the common ‘cold’ – is exhibited through congestion (nose), sore throat, blocked-up head, cough, and so on. However, the influenza virus – what causes the ‘flu’ – can present with the above symptoms but aches and pains in the joints, some of the worst exhaustion you will ever experience and, the classic symptom, a fever (lots and lots of sweating).

Bacteria are capable of reproduction without outside influence (as opposed to viruses). Bacteria are responsible for wound infections such as ‘golden staph’ (or Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus), urinary tract infections (can be caused by a range of bacteria), and pneumonia (can be caused by several bacteria, such as Streptococcus pneumoniae).

Viruses and bacteria can be rather confusing. Hope that helps somewhat. =)

Answer by Aqua Aura
Melanoma:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melanoma

I actually had this, removal was successful, I was lucky that it was checked at the earlier stages, and they booked me in for surgery immediately.
But due to it’s rapid spread in a short time, many people die shortly after being diagnosed.
You can die within a couple of months if it is at it’s most aggressive stage, and that is why early diagnosis of melanoma are so important.

Answer by chrisx
Parasites can hide in your body, wait and attack. Most get into a host without their knowledge and attack the system. They could fall into both categories. Check out:

If you want a disease that can hide in your body, try some of the genetic diseases that are only passed on if both parents carry that gene like Downs Syndrome. There is also heart disease, Huntington’s Diesease (it degenerates your brain), and a slew of Mental Illnesses.
